Understanding diabetes and the digestion of food is an essential part of managing diabetes on a day-to-day basis.
This section will cover:
- how our body usually digests food and manages the amount of glucose in our blood,
- how diabetes results in high blood glucose levels,
- how carbohydrate foods impact on blood glucose levels, including the amount and type,
- healthy eating recommendations.
For individual advice on healthy eating guidelines and the amount of carbohydrate to include in an eating plan each day, it is important to seek advice from an Accredited Practising Dietitian.
